From Self-Care to Self-Confidence: The Importance of Following Through

Mary Baker blogpost following through, self-care, self-confidence

When we think about self-care, we often focus on the things we can do to take care of ourselves in the moment. We might take a relaxing bath, read a good book, or treat ourselves to a delicious meal. These are all great ways to show ourselves love and attention, but self-care is about more than just the immediate moment. It’s also about making a commitment to ourselves and following through on that commitment.

Like we talk aboout on the show today, one of the biggest challenges we face when it comes to self-care is following through. We might make plans to take care of ourselves, but when the time comes, we find ourselves putting it off, canceling, or simply not following through. This can have serious consequences for our self-confidence and self-trust.

When we don’t follow through on self-care, we send ourselves a message that we’re not worth the effort. We tell ourselves that our needs aren’t important and that we don’t deserve to be taken care of. This can erode our self-confidence, making it harder for us to assert ourselves in other areas of our lives.

On the other hand, when we do follow through on self-care, we send ourselves a powerful message that we’re worth the effort. We tell ourselves that our needs are important and that we deserve to be taken care of. This can boost our self-confidence, making it easier for us to assert ourselves in other areas of our lives.

So, how can we make sure we follow through on self-care? Here are a few tips:

  1. Make a plan: Don’t leave self-care to chance. Make a plan for what you’re going to do, when you’re going to do it, and how you’re going to do it.
  2. Schedule it: Treat self-care like any other important appointment. Put it on your calendar and make sure you don’t schedule anything else during that time.
  3. Stick to it: When the time comes, follow through on your plan. Don’t let other things distract you or take priority.
  4. Reflect on the benefits: After you’ve taken care of yourself, take some time to reflect on how it made you feel. Did it boost your mood? Help you relax? Remind yourself of these benefits the next time you’re tempted to put self-care off.

Following through on self-care can be a challenge, but it’s worth the effort. By committing to taking care of ourselves and following through on that commitment, we can boost our self-confidence, strengthen our self-trust, and feel more peaceful and grounded.
