Sowing Seeds…Cultivating the Good Stuff

Mary Baker blogpost 2020, anxiety, choice, crisis, Cultivate, Grow, Intention, moment, podcast, Seeds

Today on the podcast it’s all about stopping and taking a moment…and setting positive intentions and practicing positive focusing to help lower our stress, strengthen our resolve and become more grounded. The anxiety from the current crisis can be overwhelming at times, especially as it is a fluid situation with little room to feel settled.

That is why I am focused today on sowing seeds. Doing small yet powerful things to bring the focus back to what is actually within our control and feel more loving and on purpose. The concept of planting a seed is all about patience for it to transform into something slowly over time. It is therefore also about faith that the tiny seed has everything it needs in it to thrive. All we must do is cultivate with daily care of watering, good soil and sunlight for it to grow. Here are the steps:

  1. Set an intention or desire. Let’s say you want to practice more patience. Note to yourself why this matters to you right now. You may be struggling with fear…or uncertainty. Perhaps you are being hard on yourself for not getting more done.
  2. Make sure your intention is POSITIVE and ATTAINABLE. Such as, “Today I want to see how patient I can be…to let go a little bit. I’ll see how this feels tonight and what I have observed.”
  3. Allow the process to simply unfold. Focus only on what you want to commit to each day in your practice. Notice how I used the word “practice” and not attainment? This is because these intentions are daily doings, without focusing on the outcome.
  4. Be kind to yourself. It’s a stressful time. Don’t push yourself. Stay in choice. Be flexible.

Sowing seeds is all about the little things we can do each day to feel more fulfilled and grounded. It’s not about how fast the plant grows or what it ultimately looks like. It’s more about seeing what you can grow ?

You Can Hear Someone’s Feelings Without Defending Yourself

Have you ever had someone tell you how hurt, angry, or disappointed they were, and immediately felt the need to explain yourself? Maybe they said you were being selfish. Or inconsiderate. Or that you clearly didn’t care about them. And suddenly, instead of listening to what they’re feeling, you’re busy defending who you are. Because you do […]

When Being the Helper Keeps You From Being Known

Are you the helper? The person everyone turns to when they’re struggling? The one who listens, offers advice, figures things out, makes things happen, and somehow always finds a way to be there? Maybe you’re really good at it. Maybe people regularly tell you how strong, generous, dependable, or selfless you are. And maybe you […]

About

My passion has been to help others uncover who they truly are, lay claim to their gifts and passions, and ultimately, their purpose. Because, I believe, a sense of purpose is what brings life, gets us out of bed and helps us to make sense of an otherwise stressful and overwhelming world.
