Creating Balance While Walking Through a Crisis

Mary Baker blogpost

Life is really forcing us to look at what matters most and what we can place further down the list. Unfortunately it is also forcing many to make very painful choices between their health, the health of others and being able to pay their bills. When scary circumstances come at us fast, it is often a mad scramble to first metabolize the new reality – that keeps changing by the day – and readapting. With TONS of unknown variables to make it even harder.

I think it would be fair to say that we are all on the continuum from doing ok and just bored at home to losing a loved one – or being very ill oneself. And every scenario in between. As the pandemic spreads and deepens, the probability of each one of us being directly affected in some way becomes more likely. The only other examples that come to mind for me are previous wars, and plagues such as polio and Ebola.

Creating meaning and balance in our lives is the topic of today’s podcast. But I imagine in these trying times, our priorities will deepen and shift as things change daily and weekly. May we see the good so many people are doing and steep in that wonderful humanity, while we metabolize the bad. In order to do this without creating more crises for ourselves and those around us, we need self-care like we need PPE’s  You can’t get through this without trying to get more sleep, meditation, reading, connecting, grieving and good boundaries around your time. My wish for you is that you can be more mindful of this.  May we also reach out in some way and connect and be there for each other. Because we need that to get through. May you and your loved ones be safe.

Because when there’s no task, no distraction, no one else’s needs to manage… that’s when the noise shows up. The racing thoughts. The guilt. The “shoulds.” The deep […]

When Survival Mode Becomes a Way of Life

If you’re always waiting for the next shoe to drop, it’s time to ask—what part of me doesn’t feel safe? We’re not meant to live with our shoulders up to our ears. But for many of us, being “on edge” has become the norm. You might call it anxiety, overthinking, or burnout, but often, it’s […]

You Can’t Be Honest When You’re Bracing for Impact

We all want to be emotionally honest. To speak up when something hurts, to ask for what we need, to be seen and understood for who we really are. But here’s the truth: honesty doesn’t happen in a vacuum. You can’t be emotionally honest when you’re constantly bracing for criticism, correction, or shutdown. And you […]

My passion has been to help others uncover who they truly are, lay claim to their gifts and passions, and ultimately, their purpose. Because, I believe, a sense of purpose is what brings life, gets us out of bed and helps us to make sense of an otherwise stressful and overwhelming world.
