The Power of Liking and Trusting Ourselves

Mary Baker blogpost journey, like ourselves. trust ourselves, power

In a culture that often emphasizes external validation, the journey of liking and trusting ourselves can be a revolutionary act of self-love and empowerment. Liking and trusting ourselves lay the foundation for a fulfilling and authentic life, shaping how we navigate relationships, pursue our goals, and respond to challenges. Let’s explore the transformative power of cultivating self-liking and self-trust, and how it can lead to greater well-being and personal growth.

Liking ourselves involves accepting and appreciating who we are, embracing our strengths, quirks, and imperfections. It’s about recognizing our inherent worthiness and treating ourselves with kindness and compassion, along with being honest with ourselves about the truth. Cultivating self-liking means celebrating our successes and accomplishments, no matter how small, and embracing our uniqueness without comparison to others. When we genuinely like ourselves, we develop a positive self-image and inner confidence that radiates outward, attracting positivity and abundance into our lives.

Self-trust is the bedrock of personal integrity and authenticity. It’s the belief that we can rely on ourselves to make wise decisions, honor our commitments, and navigate life’s challenges with resilience and grace as best we can. Building self-trust requires tuning into our intuition and inner wisdom, listening to our needs and desires, and taking aligned action even in the face of uncertainty. When we trust ourselves, we develop a deep sense of self-reliance and agency, empowering us to live with purpose and intention.

While the journey of self-liking and self-trust is transformative, it’s not always smooth sailing. We may encounter self-doubt, fear, and inner criticism along the way, stemming from internalized beliefs and societal conditioning. Many of us struggle with trauma-informed responses such as procrastination, self-sabotage and settling for less than we need and deserve. It’s essential to acknowledge these challenges with self-compassion and curiosity, recognizing that they’re part of the human experience. By cultivating awareness and practicing self-acceptance, we can challenge our limiting beliefs and cultivate a more loving and trusting relationship with ourselves.

Self-liking and self-trust thrive in an environment of self-care and self-compassion. Taking time to nurture our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being strengthens our connection to ourselves and deepens our sense of self-liking and self-trust. Whether it’s through mindfulness practices, creative expression, or acts of kindness towards ourselves, prioritizing self-care fosters a greater sense of wholeness and alignment within. I also think it’s crucial to make sure we connect with people who can allow us to be ourselves, have our own thoughts and feelings, etc, and to not be toxic.  We need safe spaces to grow and change.

Liking and trusting ourselves is not a destination but a lifelong journey of self-discovery and growth. By embracing who we are with love and acceptance, and trusting ourselves to navigate life’s twists and turns, we unlock our fullest potential and create a life filled with joy, purpose, and fulfillment. Let’s continue to nurture our self-liking and self-trust, knowing that the greatest relationship we’ll ever have is the one we have with ourselves.

Because when there’s no task, no distraction, no one else’s needs to manage… that’s when the noise shows up. The racing thoughts. The guilt. The “shoulds.” The deep […]

When Survival Mode Becomes a Way of Life

If you’re always waiting for the next shoe to drop, it’s time to ask—what part of me doesn’t feel safe? We’re not meant to live with our shoulders up to our ears. But for many of us, being “on edge” has become the norm. You might call it anxiety, overthinking, or burnout, but often, it’s […]

You Can’t Be Honest When You’re Bracing for Impact

We all want to be emotionally honest. To speak up when something hurts, to ask for what we need, to be seen and understood for who we really are. But here’s the truth: honesty doesn’t happen in a vacuum. You can’t be emotionally honest when you’re constantly bracing for criticism, correction, or shutdown. And you […]
