Boost Your Confidence: The Power of Getting Honest With Yourself

Mary Baker blogpost accountability, confidence, honest, power

Of course we want to feel confident, grounded and more peaceful.  For those of us with some social anxiety and a history of less-than-loving moments in the past with people, it will be even harder to not hide who we really are, and that is what actually hurts our self-concept.

Confidence begins with being honest with ourselves. It involves taking accountability for our communication, behavior, and the underlying motivations driving them. When we listen to our inner voice while monitoring our outer one, we create a strong foundation for personal growth and genuine interactions. Conversely, NOT being conscious of what we’re doing or saying means we’re probably not aware of our underlying agenda: which is usually passive-aggressive or at least fear-based at best.

Couching things in a certain way to avoid conflict, manipulate others to do what we need them to do instead of being direct, or denying our true feelings in the moment are examples.  This is the hiding I mentioned a moment ago. We don’t want them to be mad, to think we’re selfish, etc.  More honestly, we’re afraid they’ll be mad and it won’t be ok.  It’s so much outsourcing of who we are just thinking about it makes me cringe. How do we get away from this disconnect that ultimately makes us feel badly deep down?

Our inner voice is a powerful guide. It speaks to us through intuition, emotions, and personal truths. By paying attention to this voice, we gain invaluable insights into our desires, values, and aspirations. Tuning in allows us to align our choices with our authentic selves, enhancing our confidence and self-assurance. Authenticity is a powerful magnet that attracts genuine connections and opportunities. When we own our communication, behavior, and the driving forces behind them, we radiate authenticity. This deep-rooted self-assurance fosters stronger relationships, builds trust, and allows us to fully express who we are.

Taking ownership of our communication and behavior enables us to exert healthier control over our interactions. It empowers us to make conscious choices, respond instead of react, and cultivate more meaningful connections. When we align our actions with our true selves, we build a solid foundation for confidence and personal growth. Becoming more confident through honesty is a continuous journey of self-discovery and growth. It involves being open to new possibilities, seeking guidance from mentors or coaches, and joining supportive communities. By documenting our observations and discoveries along the way, we create a roadmap for positive change and enhanced relationship dynamics.

Confidence is not something that magically appears overnight. It is a result of getting honest with ourselves and keeping that honesty alive in our communication and behavior. By listening to our inner voice, monitoring our outer one, and owning our choices, we can truly transform our lives. Embrace the power of honesty, embark on the journey of self-discovery, and watch your confidence emerge. It’s not always easy, but nothing is more profound on the journey.

The Exhausting Work of Trying to Control What Isn’t Yours

Most of us don’t think of ourselves as controlling. In fact, many of the people I work with are caring, thoughtful, and deeply concerned about the wellbeing of others.
