What We Value Most

Hearing both stories of folks hoarding supplies to sell, leaving the rest of us without, to others reaching out to help, to serve, or to just be humble and responsible. It made me wonder what values and beliefs are being lived out here. From “each person for him or herself” to all the way to the other end of the spectrum where “we are all interconnected” and impact each other whether we are aware of it or not.

To other values such as compassion… for all of us to be thoughtful and caring. – to care for other more fragile folks who could be greatly impacted. It has been so heartening to see those in my own community reaching out to help those in need. Since this is one of my values (and beliefs), it is good to see this. As crises seem to bring out both the best and the worst in people, it has also been difficult to look for healthy leadership (another one of my values) and not find it leaving us to fend for ourselves on a more local level. My heart goes out to all who are financially impacted as well.

Values matter, because they drive our behavior, from how we look at things to the choices we make. Values comprise the type of person we either think we are or aspire to be. When I work with people around healthy relationships with themselves and others, we cannot have that conversation without exploring what they care about, and why. What they believe about the world and themselves will dictate how they live their lives.

So, if you want to take a dive into what matters most to your heart, join us on today’s podcast episode. Because, even though I chose this topic for this week months ago, it couldn’t be timelier.

You Can Hear Someone’s Feelings Without Defending Yourself

Have you ever had someone tell you how hurt, angry, or disappointed they were, and immediately felt the need to explain yourself? Maybe they said you were being selfish. Or inconsiderate. Or that you clearly didn’t care about them. And suddenly, instead of listening to what they’re feeling, you’re busy defending who you are. Because you do […]

When Being the Helper Keeps You From Being Known

Are you the helper? The person everyone turns to when they’re struggling? The one who listens, offers advice, figures things out, makes things happen, and somehow always finds a way to be there? Maybe you’re really good at it. Maybe people regularly tell you how strong, generous, dependable, or selfless you are. And maybe you […]

About

My passion has been to help others uncover who they truly are, lay claim to their gifts and passions, and ultimately, their purpose. Because, I believe, a sense of purpose is what brings life, gets us out of bed and helps us to make sense of an otherwise stressful and overwhelming world.
