Q: What does a life coach really do?

A: A life coach is someone who works with you to first identify what the issues/obstacles/challenges are that have been keeping you from reaching your goals,  such is having better relationships, becoming more self-confident, taking a risk you’ve been putting off or chasing that dream. A good life coach will educate, support, collaborate with you and challenge you!

 

Q: How is life coaching different from counseling?

A:  Counseling is more appropriate for you if you are having difficulty functioning, are in crisis, or are grieving.  Life coaching, on the other hand, is best utilized when you feel grounded enough and goal-focused, and you can be self-motivated enough to create changes in your life.  I’ve often worked with folks who after working through deeper issues in counseling, desire the more positive, solution focused approach of life coaching.  In other words, we would all want to nurse that sprained ankle before we hired a trainer to train for a marathon!

Q: How do I know coaching is for me?

A:  If you’ve been thinking a lot lately about changes you would like to make in your life yet don’t know where to start, or need someone to encourage and support you, then you’re ready for a coach.  That being said, make sure you are ready to be done with being sick-n-tired, so that you can commit to making this investment in yourself.

Q:  How is your life coaching different?

A:  I have found over the years that first we often need to understand why we are struggling to make changes…why we aren’t happy, etc etc before we can begin to identify where to start tacking the obstacles.  So, I do a lot of teaching, cocreating and challenging my clients.  I think it’s important to share what I’ve learned and witnessed that has really changed client’s lives.  Understanding is power.

 

Q:  How long should I work with a coach?

A:  It takes each of us a good six months to a year to cement and sustain any real change. And that’s really working it for that time!  After that we all need a check-in with someone who knows us, loves us and helps us to stay on track, because life shows up!  Things change.  We change.  Research shows that those who have someone to check in with even twice a year are more likely to keep evolving.  Growth begets growth.  We are wired to want more!
